Co lateral Damage, a common word, which we come across nowadays, precisely, while combating with any militant outfits, harboring in a populace area, and to nab them, or to retrieve innocent peoples, who are taken as hostage by the terrorists, our combating force or disaster management force are being empowered to act in any form to destroy their nefarious ploy, and ensure safety of the innocents, and accordingly, they have to take some drastic measures. As a result, we observed, in number of occasions, numerous innocents die, which we termed as co lateral damage. We discerningly accuse the militant outfits or the perpetrators are responsible for this devastation too.
We resort to an alibi of co lateral damage, to maintain the sanctity of our image and justify the act being performed by us, despite we can apprehend the mayhem going to be caused by our counter act, as to diffuse the fiendish devise of the perpetrators are essentially needed.
However, of late, I observed a sordid incident, where an innocent person was captivated by few people in an outskirt from the urban area of our country, where people are basically involved in agriculture and cattle rearing, and obviously they are from economically weaker section from the society, and when they caught an innocent, suspecting him as a wild animal trafficker, they started to beat him mercilessly, and eventually lynched him, resulting an immature death of an innocent teenager, who was just pursuing his studies in a college. The area, where he was captured, was not known to him, as he went there to pay a visit to his relative’s house for a ceremony. But, unfortunately, as he was considered as an intruder to that concern locality, people suspected him as a trafficker of wild life and brutally tortured him, till he breathed his last breathe. People are so much angry with the traffickers, that their anger eventually taken toll of an innocent’s life. A very sad incident indeed!
Now, the question is, perhaps, in our subconscious mind, we approve all brutality and even killing, despite we claimed to be civilized! I guess when we take notice of such unlawful acts are taking place within our purview, our frontal lobe of brain cease to act, resulting us to approve such act as justifiable and in a veil of punishment, we vicariously enjoy such heinous act, and tend to take law our own hand, nullifying the existing legal system, which is of course a lengthy process and having provision of defending the accused and even evidences are required to establish one as guilty.
On contrary, corruption, crime, immorality, dishonesty are rampantly increasing in our society, which are impacting people to become impatient and losing faith on the existing legal system, and taking law on their own hand. People’s anger being ventilated in numerous insignificant issues and resulting such sordid tales.
So, the co-lateral damage primarily occur in our brain, making us numb and irrational and witnessing reprehensible acts, which are occurring in recurring order in our society. Series of manifestation of such heinous acts being performed by the ordinary people are evidently available nowadays. So, the external conditions are purely responsible for co-lateral damage even in our brain and this ailment of brain is nowadays increasing in an astronomical pace, which is the by-product of the materialistic, market driven, profit oriented society, where money and opulence is the only insignia of status, and to satiate that, we tend to resort to any means, repudiating all values and rational bent of mind too. Consequently, a severe crisis is emerging in our society, threatening our peace, harmony and sanctity.
Human civilization is unfortunately experiencing inhuman activities, sheer adverse to mankind. A polemic in nature, this co-lateral damage is causing detriment to our own values, ethics, rational behavior and even our very existence.
Human brain, an enigma to us! How it works, how it evolves and how it paves the progress of human civilization, favoring mankind to thrive. On contrary, when it cease to act with sensible and rational approach, what fatality it may deliver, is also discerning to us. People’s level of endurance and tolerance are declining sharply, resulting to lose their rational sense, precisely for which, human beings are considered as rational beings. In one hand, we are upholding our voice for humanity, on the other hand, we are silent, and when we take notice that, humanity is at threat we remain unnerved! We are so much focused on self-centered attitude, that when our neighbor is in distress, we distanced ourselves unhesitatingly, feeling smug and safe, that I am not the prey of any unpalatable or uncomfortable or embarrassing state. Keeping me isolated, not reaching or assisting in other’s predicament has become a common phenomenon nowadays. So, when we are in distress, we hesitate to seek other’s help, considering our self-esteem will be at stake. Our ego, vanity, and complex are the ingredients perhaps, conducive for the ceasing of our frontal lobe and the impact of such damage is of great paramount in an available society, because, it will pave the way for the recurrence of brutal, inhuman acts, where values, ethics become paralyzed, rather become the helpless victim of such caprice, where gross injustice being defended as justifiable.
If we are indulged to be driven by the motor system only, eliminating sensory as insensible and inordinate, then inevitably, we will be beckoning our own jeopardy, leading us to go for astray. Common folk are not mere common. They are extremely essential for few to reach in the corridor of power. But power entails accountability. If we indulged ourselves to be getting only corrupt, then the power will boomerang on us, creating a catastrophe, from which none can escape. Thus, only unnecessary bloodshed and chaos will act as a tyrant on us, ceasing our existence perpetually.
So, it is pertinent to stick with principles and should not allow emotions or passion to overpower it. Liberalism will only welcome dismay by indulging this ‘co-lateral damage’ as an eventuality of such act, and thus, our civilization will take a back seat and barbarism will emerge as a recalcitrant act, destroying the edifice of the civilized dome we crafted for a long time, where mankind only being worshiped.
